FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS A SLEEPOUT?

A Vinnies Sleepout is when you sleep overnight in a place like your backyard, couch, school or community hall. Participants ask family and friends to sponsor them to raise funds and awareness on the growing issue of homelessness. If you are a teacher or community leader, you can apply to host a sleepout here.
Vinnies Sleepouts don’t have to be overnight; they can be a few hours, depending on what is appropriate for the participants. School Sleepouts and Community Sleepouts can occur at any time during the year.

WHAT IF WE DON’T WANT TO DO A SLEEPOUT BUT WE STILL WANT TO FUNDRAISE?

There are plenty of other ways to fundraise. Host a fun run, bikeathon, bake-off, gold coin pyjama day, run a movie marathon, or ask for donations instead of a birthday or wedding gift. You can also donate directly to one of our Appeals through our website. Whatever fundraiser you choose, you’ll make a positive difference in the lives of those in need. You can find more fundraising ideas in Fundraise Your Way Kit.

CAN VINNIES PROVIDE A SPEAKER FOR MY EVENT?

Depending on availability we may be able to provide a speaker. To enquire about a speaking engagement please email us at fundraising@svdpwa.org.au. For school events please email: schools@svdpwa.org.au

HOW E-SAFE ARE YOUR FUNDRAISING PAGES?

To help keep children safe online we have made all School Sleepout participant pages private. Participants can still share a link or QR code to their page directly with their supporters. It just means the general public can’t find their profile easily.

Please note that our Community Sleepout, Fundraise Your Way and the Tough Night Out event pages are public and have an option that allows the user to set their page to private.

Why can't I see my classmate's School Sleepout fundraising page?

In the School Sleepout, we have removed visibility to individual pages from the public. You can still see your teammate’s page if they share their page link with you. You can still see the total of your school group/class page and the school total. Fundraising as a group helps students work toward one common goal and reduces the pressure put on individual fundraisers.

DO YOU PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES FOR SCHOOLS?

Social responsibility and advocacy activities can be found on our Youth Services page here: https://www.vinnieswa.org.au/about-vinnies-wa/our-services/youth-service/ or email schools@svdpwa.org.au

CAN I FUNDRAISE BY SELLING ITEMS?

Yes, you can fundraise by running a bake sale, sausage sizzle or something similar and donate the money raised by making a direct deposit. Please note that tax-deductible receipts cannot be issued for sales.

HOW DO DONORS RECEIVE TAX DEDUCTIBLE RECEIPTS?

When people make donations online they will automatically receive a tax-deductible receipt. If cash donors would like a receipt please record their details on the Cash Donation Summary Form. Once we receive their donation and the form we will issue the donor a receipt.

CAN OUR OFFLINE FUNDRAISING BE ADDED TO OUR ONLINE TOTAL?

Yes! Once we receive the bank deposit from your fundraising we can add the offline amount to your fundraising page total.

WHERE WILL MY FUNDS GO?

Your amazing fundraising will help Vinnies WA support West Australians in need. You can read more about how we help here.
